January 26, 2020 (4-7pm) at the DiMenna Children's History Museum

By Vonnie Murad January 15, 2020

The DiMenna Children’s History Museum at the New-York Historical Society hosts its 9th annual Family Benefit Party, which this year invites kids 4 to 14 and their families to take over the Museum and become history detectives! Guests will dig into the past, uncover clues through special hands-on historical activities, and enjoy lots of delicious food. Kids will engage in fun, interactive activities and:

  • Dig to find broken pottery, pieces of toys...even some bones;
  • Meet Clara Driscoll and discover who really designed those dazzling Tiffany Lamps—before making a light-up paper lantern of their own to take home;
  • Solve the puzzle of New York’s past, present, and future skyline by creating silhouette buildings, inspired by artist Béatrice Coron’s large-scale silhouette of Manhattan, on view in the Museum;
  • Decode ciphers, cross writing, and masked letters from the past to unlock hidden communications;
  • Meet Canarsie and Dutch negotiators portrayed by historical interpreters, examine New Amsterdam currency, and try to figure out if Manhattan really was bought for $24 in 1626; and
  • Create fantastical vehicles using 3-D materials inspired by historical clues.

Funds raised at the event help the New-York Historical Society and the DiMenna Children’s History Museum to continue providing exceptional opportunities for children and families to discover and explore our nation’s history. Through interactive museum experiences and unique family programming—as well as school programs serving students at their schools and in the Museum—the New-York Historical Society annually serves more than 40,000 family visitors, 200,000 New York City school students, and thousands of teachers.

Tickets:  $75 Child, $150 Adult. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call (212) 485-9240 or visit nyhistory.org/family-benefit-party.
