What's OPEN in NYC

NYC VENUES STATUS AS OF NOVEMBER 11, 2020

Your favorite museums and gardens are open! However, you can't just show up at your destination and expect to purchase tickets. There are new hours, reduced capacities, safety protocols, and (most importantly) advanced ticketing requirements with timed entries. So plan ahead!

9/11 Memorial and Museum
OPEN. Visit the museum's website to learn about the new hours, reserve tickets, and review visitor guidelines.

American Folk Art Museum
OPEN. Please visit their website (https://folkartmuseum.org/news/reopening-visitor-guidelines/) for new hours and visitor guidelines. Tickets must be reserved in advance.

American Museum of Natural History
OPEN. For changes in operation, ticketing, and health-and-safety measures, visit https://www.amnh.org/plan-your-visit.

Asia Society
OPEN. Tickets must be reserved in advance, and there are new safety protocol and visitor guidelines: https://asiasociety.org/new-york/plan-your-visit

Broadway
All Broadway theaters are closed and all performances have been canceled until further notice. You can stream previously recorded shows at Great Performances (must be Thirteen member - which is totally worth every penny!), BroadwayHD (offers a 7-day free trial), OnTheBoardsTV,  KnowToGo (streamed theatre for young audiences), PlayPerView, and MarqueeTV (the classics).

Bronx Zoo

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Brooklyn Children's Museum
OPEN. Visit the website to see new hours, reserve your tickets, and to learn about new safety requirements.

Brooklyn Museum

Carnegie Hall
All events canceled through January 6, 2021.

Central Park Zoo

Chelsea Piers
Reopening in phases following guidance from the New York State Forward Reopening Guidelines for Sports & Recreation and Summer Camp. Visit the website (https://www.chelseapiers.com/updates/) for specific venue availability, registration, and reservation details.

Children's Museum of the Arts
Closed until further notice, but you can take a virtual tour with Google Arts and Culture. The museum also offers free resources for at-home arts education on its website, as well as online after-school classes & art camps, art pods, and virtual private lessons.

Children's Museum of Manhattan
OPEN. Visit the website to reserve your tickets/choose your package and to learn about new safety requirements. You can also visit their online feature: CMOM at Home for engaging interactive activities.

Drawing Center
OPEN. Visit the center's website to make a free, timed-entry reservation before your visit.

Edge Observation Deck at Hudson Yards
OPEN. Reserve your tickets in advance and learn about their safety procedures before your visit: https://www.edgenyc.com/en/know-before-you-go

Empire State Building

The High Line

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
OPEN. Visit the website to purchase your advanced time tickets. Until then, you can take a virtual tour of the museum with Google Arts and Culture.

Japan Society
Closed until further notice

The Jewish Museum
OPEN with FREE admission through December 2020. Visit the website to reserve tickets and read about new safety guidelines. Liberty Science Center
OPEN. Visit the website (https://lsc.org/liberty-science-center-is-open) to reserve tickets, view the new hours, and learn about safety guidelines.

Lincoln Center
All performances are currently canceled. To maintain vital connections during the COVID-19 pandemic Lincoln Center has launched a new online initiative called Lincoln Center at Home, which includes Pop-Up Classrooms and Concerts for Kids.

Metropolitan Museum of Art
OPEN. The Met Fifth Avenue and The Cloisters are open. You must reserve your tickets online before going. Met Breuer is still closed until further notice. Visit The Met 360° Project for an award-winning series of six short videos that invites viewers around the world to virtually visit The Met's art and architecture in a fresh, immersive way. Created using spherical 360° technology, it allows viewers to explore some of the Museum's iconic spaces as never before.

MoMath National Museum of Mathematics

Morgan Library & Museum

Morris Jumel Mansion

Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden

Museum of the City of New York
OPEN. Please visit their website before you go for view the new hours, reserve your tickets, and read the new health guidelines.

Museum of Illusions

Museum of Modern Art
OPEN. Tickets must be reserved online and will not be available at the Museum. Tickets are released one week in advance in one-week blocks, every Friday at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Free access to the Museum through September 27 is made possible by UNIQLO, MoMA’s proud partner since 2013. Members do not need to book tickets in advance. An allocation of timed tickets is reserved for members each hour; guest privileges apply. Mondays are reserved exclusively for members and their guests.
 
National Museum of the American Indian

New Museum

New Victory Theater
Show or no show, New Victory is committed to bringing the performing arts to the widest possible audience, which is why they're excited to introduce you to New Victory Dance and New Victory Arts Break.

New York Aquarium

New York Botanical Garden

New York Hall of Science
Closed until further notice

New-York Historical Society
OPEN with a free, outdoor exhibition, Hope Wanted: New York City Under Quarantine, in their rear courtyard. The Museum has also reopened indoors, with safety protocols in place for visitors and staff. The museum also offers History @ Home, an online learning resource for students of all ages.

New York Philharmonic
Concerts canceled through January 5, 2021. You can access kid-friendly concerts online at YPC Play.

New York Public Libraries
Grab & Go locations have been extended! Visit the NYPL website to check if this service is available at a library near you. Also see my article loaded with NYPL resources.

Noguchi Museum

Queens Museum

Top of the Rock
OPEN. Timed tickets can be purchased online in advance. Kids 12 and under are FREE through October 12. One free child per paid adult. Box office only.


Wave Hill

Whitney Museum of American Art
OPEN. Visit the museum website to read about new guidelines in place for the safety and well-being of visitors and staff. As a thank-you to local communities and supporters, admission to the Museum is Pay What You Wish through September 28. All visitors and members must book timed tickets in advance.

YMCA Branches
Branches started reopening on September 8. West Side YMCA is OPEN. Visit YMCA @ Home for information about live workouts with Y instructors or participate in one of the outdoor classes.
