Why Every Mom Needs to Know About Mr. Puppy The Musical

An NYC Summer Must-See for the Whole Family

July 2, 2025

This month, a delightful new musical is bounding onto the New York stage—and it’s just the kind of heartwarming, high-energy show that families will fall in love with. Mr. Puppy The Musical, inspired by the popular children's fashion and accessories brand, is making its world premiere at the AMT Theater in Midtown Manhattan for just 16 performances, from July 6–16, 2025.

If you’re looking for a theatrical treat that your kiddos (and let’s be honest—you!) will adore, this is it.

An Adorable Adventure with Big Dreams

Mr. Puppy The Musical tells the story of a plucky little toy dog with a heart full of dreams. Stuck on a toy store shelf, Mr. Puppy longs to see the world, despite being told to stay put. Refusing to be boxed in, he launches himself into an adventure—literally—by flying off in a toy balloon! What follows is a whirlwind of color, music, and wonder as Mr. Puppy discovers a vibrant world full of diverse cultures, catchy tunes, and life-changing lessons.

It’s the perfect tale for any young dreamer (and any parent who wants to encourage that spirit). Think Toy Story meets The Little Prince, with a sprinkle of Broadway sparkle.

Diverse Cast, Broadway Talent, and Puppets

The show stars Joseph Keegan as the brave and lovable Mr. Puppy, joined by a fantastically diverse ensemble including Jamiel T. Burkhart, Anja Vasa, Beatriz Coronel, and Mariko Kai. Directed and choreographed by Broadway veteran Jonathan S. Cerullo, the production boasts whimsical scenic design, enchanting lighting, and dazzling puppetry that will have little ones wide-eyed from curtain up to final bow.

And for the moms: yes, there’s plenty to love here too. The costumes are charming, the storytelling heartfelt, and the music (by David L. Tolley) is catchy enough that you might just find yourself humming along long after the show.

More Than Entertainment—A Message That Matters

Behind the adorable puppets and playful songs lies a message every parent can get behind: be brave, take risks, and believe in yourself. The show’s creator, Michael David Lee, was inspired to bring joy into the world after witnessing hardship as a photojournalist. What began as a comforting doodle of a childhood toy has now transformed into a joyful celebration of hope and resilience.

Plan Your Visit

Performances run July 6 through July 16 at AMT Theater (354 W 45th Street, NYC). With only 16 shows, tickets are expected to go fast—so if you're planning a summer in the city, make this your family’s must-do theater outing.

Whether it’s your child’s first musical or your fiftieth, Mr. Puppy The Musical promises an unforgettable experience filled with giggles, gasps, and maybe even a few happy tears. Because sometimes, the best stories are the ones that remind us that big dreams can come from even the smallest shelf.
